Abstract: We examine the use of an ontology within the context of a system for the annotation and querying of ancient Greek tragic texts. This ontology in question results from the reorganisation of a tagset that was originally used in the annotation of a corpus of tragic texts for salient information regarding ritual and religion and its representation in Greek tragedy. In the article we discuss the original tagset as well as providing examples of the annotation. We also describe the structure of the ontology itself as well as its use within a system for querying the annotated corpus.
