the current conference has two aims:<\/div>\n
1) The analysis of ancient documentation, both literary and iconographic,<\/div>\n
of mythical traditions and all narratives that have the goddesses Athena<\/div>\n
and Minerva as protagonists. Another object of the analysis will be how<\/div>\n
these narrations are later re-elaborated in the art and literature of later<\/div>\n
eras, from Middle Ages to Contemporary Age.<\/div>\n
2) How and why the two deities are identified with each other in antiquity.<\/div>\n
What are the characteristics that induced this identification? What are the<\/div>\n
differences between the two goddesses? Which are the peculiar traits?<\/div>\n
On the whole, the conference intends to be an occasion for an<\/div>\n
interdisciplinary confrontation that favours dialogue among different ways<\/div>\n
of approaching documentation and the connected disciplines: anthropology,<\/div>\n
archaeology, classical philology, history, art history, history of<\/div>\n
literature, history of religions.<\/div>\n
A specific section of the conference will be dedicated to the historical<\/div>\n
and artistic analysis and the history of the Velletri Pallas, a statue<\/div>\n
found in Velletri in 1797 and today preserved in Paris, at the Louvre<\/div>\n
Museum.<\/div>\n

The scholars who would like to contribute may send a one-page abstract (max 2.000 characters) to Igor Baglioni, (igorbaglioni79@gmail.com<\/a>) by April 1st, 2020.<\/div>\n
Attached to the abstract should be: the title of the paper; the chosen<\/div>\n
area; a short biography of the authors; email address and phone number.<\/div>\n
Papers may be written and presented in English, French, Italian and Spanish.<\/div>\n
The acceptance of papers will be communicated (by email) only to the<\/div>\n
selected contributors by 2020, April 10.<\/div>\n
Please send the paper, complete with notes and bibliograpy, by email not<\/div>\n
later than May 20. The delivery of the paper is required to participate in<\/div>\n
the conference.<\/div>\n
Important deadlines:<\/div>\n
Closing of call for papers: April 1st, 2020.<\/div>\n
Notification about acceptance: April 10th, 2020.<\/div>\n
Delivery of paper: May 20th, 2020.<\/div>\n
Conference: June 3 – 6th, 2020<\/div>\n
There is no attendance fee. The participants who don\u2019t live in Rome or<\/div>\n
surroundings will be accommodated in hotels and bed-and-breakfasts which<\/div>\n
have an agreement with the Museum of Religions Raffaele Pettazzoni to offer<\/div>\n
discounted prices.<\/div>\n
Papers may be published on Religio. Collana di Studi del Museo delle<\/div>\n
Religioni \u201cRaffaele Pettazzoni\u201d (Edizioni Quasar), and in specialized<\/div>\n
journals. All the papers will be peer-reviewed.<\/div>\n
In the evenings there will be free-of-charge visits to the museums and<\/div>\n
monuments of the Castelli Romani area. The excursion programme will be<\/div>\n
presented at the same time as the conference programme.<\/div>\n
