It wasn&#8217;t an easy decision and we are aware of the uncertainty of the present situation, that&#8217;s why we thought appropriate to reserve ourselves the chance of moving our conference, if necessary, to Spring 2021. Hicks, Cambridge 1925).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Prolepsis Association is delighted to announce its fifth international conference whose theme will be the concept of prolepsis itself: we chose this theme as an ideal conclusion to the five-year work of the present boarding committee. We would like to use Diogenes Laertius\u2019 quotation as a starting point for a discussion on the vast number of issues related to predicting, anticipating, and foretelling throughout a period that goes from Classical antiquity to the Renaissance. This year the conference will be particularly keen on \u2013 but not limited to \u2013 the following topics:<\/div>\n<div>\u25cf Apocalyptic and visionary literature, oracles;<\/div>\n<div>\u25cf Divination arts;<\/div>\n<div>\u25cf Prophecies and prophetic characters in various literary genres;<\/div>\n<div>\u25cf Spoiler and its perception;<\/div>\n<div>\u25cf Modern attributions of foreshadows to ancient authors;<\/div>\n<div>\u25cf The literary technique of prolepsis;<\/div>\n<div>\u25cf Proleptic pronouns and their special uses, rhetorical figures (hysteron proteron, anastrophe, figures dealing with word order);<\/div>\n<div>\u25cf Premonitory dreams;<\/div>\n<div>\u25cf Prequel;<\/div>\n<div>\u25cf Political foreshadowing, politicians claiming to be ahead of times, historical figures who were actually ahead of their times;<\/div>\n<div>\u25cf Anacyclosis (especially regimes preparing following governments);<\/div>\n<div>\u25cf Misplaced fascicles, reclamantes;<\/div>\n<div>\u25cf Transpositions, accidental shifts forward (e. g. books in a work, or works in a corpus);<\/div>\n<div>\u25cf Unveiling alleged literary foreshadowing;<\/div>\n<div>\u25cf Preparatory works (notes, drafts, hypomnemata, proekdoseis);<\/div>\n<div>\u25cf Prolepsis as philosophical concept.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The participation in the conference as speaker is open to postgraduate students and early career researchers. To participate is necessary to send an e-mail to\u00a0<a class=\"mailto-link\" href=\"mailto:prolepsis.associazione@gmail.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">prolepsis.associazione@gmail.com<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0by 12\/07\/2020<\/div>\n<div>The e-mail must contain the following .pdf attachments:<\/div>\n<div>\u25cf An anonymous abstract of approximately 300 words (excluding references) and in English. You should specify if the abstract is for an oral presentation or a poster as well as your language of choice;<\/div>\n<div>\u25cf A short academic biography with name and affiliation.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Papers should be 20 minutes in length plus 10 minutes for discussion, the languages admitted for the presentation are English and Italian. Italian speakers will be required to provide an English handout, PowerPoint, and possibly a translation\/translated summary of their paper.<\/div>\n<div>Proposals for coordinated panels (three papers reaching 90 min. in total, discussion included) and posters are most welcome. Posters should be written in Italian or English. Selected papers\/posters will be considered for publication.<\/div>\n<div>Proposals will be evaluated through double-blind peer review by scholars in the Humanities. The proposal evaluation will be carried out based on the following criteria: consistency, clarity, originality, methods. All abstracts, including those in joint panels, will be reviewed and accepted on their own merits. Please note that this review is anonymous: your anonymous abstract is the sole basis for judging your proposed paper for acceptance.
